Wrecks

On Tuesday, July 12th, 1938 around 7:00pm, train 272 with 37 cars and a caboose was near Allenville when it was struck by a tornado.  Cars number 1 and 7-16 were blown off the track and 200 ft of track were torn up.  The crew were: T.M. Thomas(engineer), O.L. French(fireman), H.T. Harper(conductor), C.C. Crist(brakeman), and C.W. Miller(brakeman). 

 

IC X-90, a Shaw Electric 100-ton crane built in November 1911 and stationed at Mattoon, works on an IC boxcar toppled by the tornado.
